Hail Kabambe! SKC legacy remains

Kabambe (L); Its time to work

Dalitso Kabambe has been elected the new President of the UTM party in a landslide victory at the party’s convention held in Mzuzu.

Kabambe garnered 636 votes, overwhelmingly outpacing his closest challengers Mathews Mtumbuka (22 votes), Newton Kambala (26 votes), and Patricia Kaliati (21 votes).

Out of the 727 votes cast, 22 were declared null and void.

The convention, attended by close to 800 delegates from across the country, marked a significant moment in UTM’s journey as the party prepares for the 2025 general elections.

Delegates were united in their support for Kabambe, whose campaign emphasized unity, inclusivity, and a vision for transformative leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Kabambe passionately outlined his priorities for the party and the nation, promising to root out divisive practices that have held Malawi back.

“My vision is to see a united Malawi, where tribalism, regionalism, and nepotism have no place. These vices are barriers to our development, and we must eradicate them together,” he said.

The new UTM leader called on all Malawians, regardless of their background, to come together in the spirit of unity.

“We must work as one people, one nation, for the betterment of all. Let us set aside our differences and focus on building a brighter future for Malawi,” Kabambe emphasized.

He also took a moment to pay tribute to outgoing leader and UTM founder, Dr. Saulos Chilima, for his visionary leadership in establishing the party.

“Dr. Chilima has been an inspiration and a true patriot. His vision for transformation and his commitment to building a better Malawi brought us to where we are today. We owe him immense gratitude for laying such a strong foundation,” he remarked.

Delegates expressed optimism about Kabambe’s leadership, with many hailing his victory as a turning point for the party. Senior UTM officials described him as a pragmatic leader with the ability to steer the party towards electoral success.

“Kabambe has shown he has the vision and dedication to lead us into a new era. This is the beginning of a stronger, more unified UTM,” one delegate said.

The convention concluded with Kabambe urging all members to remain steadfast in their efforts to build a stronger party.

“The work begins now. Together, we will take UTM to greater heights and make a lasting impact on Malawi’s future,” he said.
