UTM convention underway in Mzuzu
The UTM is holding its anticipated convention in Mzuzu, where the election of duty-bearers is the main agenda.
The event has drawn 800 delegates, including four presidential candidates vying for the party’s top leadership.
The convention has also attracted representatives from other political parties, including the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and People’s Party (PP), signifying its broad political significance.
Convention chairperson, Lekani Loka, expressed confidence that the event would mark a turning point for the party.
“This convention is not just about electing leaders; it is a moment to reaffirm our commitment to unity and progress,” Loka said.
“We believe these elections will strengthen the party and lay a solid foundation for future success,” he added.
On the other hand, party general secretary, Patricia Kaliati said unity and resilience have been a pillar for the party’s progress.
“We have gone through a lot but unity has helped us grow this far. We also need to offer special heroic appreciation to our former leader, the late Dr. Saulos Chilima who was always there to unite us,” Kaliati.
