MEC confident fuel shortages won’t disrupt voter registration
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is confident that the second phase of voter registration will not be affected by fuel shortages.
MEC Chairperson Justice Anabel Mtalimanja made the assurance when she toured some of the voter registration centers in the district today.
This comes as this morning most of the filling stations around Mchinji Boma had no fuel.
While acknowledging that fuel shortage is a threat to the exercise, Mtalimanja says the commission is making sure to have enough stocks so the exercise progresses smoothly.
Among others, it has been observed that there is a low turnout of registrants.
For example, only 42 people had registered at the Nzula Voter Registration Centre in the past two days.
