Man electrocuted in suspected vandalism incident in Lilongwe
An unidentified man was found dead after an apparent act of vandalism turned fatal at Gravity Mall in Lilongwe City Centre.
Lingadzi police deputy spokesperson Maria Kumwenda reported that the man’s body was discovered on the morning of November 10, 2024, lying near a hacksaw and copper wires, suspected to have been cut from an ESCOM transformer.
Kumwenda urged the public to avoid tampering with electrical infrastructure, citing severe health risks and legal penalties.
Under the Electricity Act 2024, vandalizing ESCOM assets can lead to a 20-year jail term or a K100 million fine.
The police have asked anyone identifying the body to contact Kamuzu Central Hospital Mortuary.
