MNCS announces 6th Malawi Sports Awards

The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) will host the 6th edition of the Malawi Sports Awards on February 25th, 2025.
Under the theme “Celebrating sporting Excellency”, the extravagant event is scheduled to take place at Nkopola in Mangochi in what officials tout as one of the major changes from Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) In Lilongwe.
The announcement was made on Thursday, 7th November in Blantyre where MNCS officials told journalists that next year’s award show will have distinct changes to previous editions.
The local sport’s governing body has made two obvious changes to the 14 categories which contenders will be battling for votes in which includes ‘Sports journalist of the year in print and a separate one for electronic category.
Another notable addition which the sports council have announce is the ‘Sportswoman and man with disability of the year’ award.
This year there are a few changes that have been made, chairperson of the MNCS marketing and research committee Gladson Kuyeri said.
Kuyeri said: “As you remember that each year we have held these awards at BICC in Lilongwe, but we want to take them a level higher by taking them to the lake.”
The selection process for contestants will include nomination by sports writers associations followed by shortlisting stage to ensure careful scrutiny of contenders.
Thereafter, officials say the listed names will go through an adjudication stage where the best top three in each category will be chosen.
Finally, the names will be offered to the public for the final vote through various platforms.
On the business side of things, the MNCS extended an invite to corporate partners, emphasizing the mutual benefits of collaboration.

He said: “We recognize that the corporate are a critical stakeholder thus our call to them should come to finance this event in a way of sponsorship, not as a donation.”
“In fact, it is a premium event where the corporate gurus will have time for networking, to showcase their products and services to prospective customers while appreciating talent in various fields across the sports circles.” Matola said.
