Man arrested over wife’s murder in Lilongwe
Police at Namitete in Lilongwe have arrested Jonas Sainani, 45, for allegedly assaulting to death his first wife at Kaziputa Village over family disagreements on Saturday last week.
Lilongwe police spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu has confirmed and identified the deceased as Rosemary July, 44.
According to Chigalu, The suspect, who has been in marriage with Rosemary (deceased) for 26 years, with five children together, married a second wife few years ago.
“In the afternoon on the day of the incident, Rosemary followed her husband (suspect) who was at his second wife’s house,” he said.
“While there, the couple started quarreling over family matters, which in the end forced the suspect to hit his wife in the head with unknown blunt object.”
Chigalu added that following the assault, Rosemary fell down and became unconscious and she was rushed to St. Gabriel Mission Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Postmortem at Kamuzu Central Hospital revealed that Rosemary died due to severe intracranial hemorrhage as a result of severe traumatic brain injuries.
Jonas Sainani will appear in court to answer a case of murder.
“Both the suspect and the deceased hail from Kaziputa Village, Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe District,” concluded Chigalu.
