Fisherman dies after swallowing live fish
A fisherman identified as Masundu Mereka has died after accidentally swallowing a live fish in the area of Senior Chief Tengani in Nsanje district.
Group Village Head Dumba, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, confirmed the development, saying Mereka met his fate while fishing at Mpimbi River late on Thursday.
“The fisherman was holding a live fish in his hands when it accidentally slipped out and jumped into his mouth. The fish got stuck in his throat, which caused severe bleeding from his nose and mouth,” said Dumba.
According to the chief, some well-wishers rushed Mereka to Tengani Health Centre, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The deceased was from Bazhu Village in Traditional Authority Mbenje in Nsanje district.
