K1.2 billion worth medical equipment lands at ZA Hospital

Zomba Central Hospital has received a container of medical equipment worth K1.2 billion from a group of Malawians both local and in the diaspora.
A conglomerate of organizations namely Patriots, Lions Club Zomba, Rotaries International, and Smiling Surgeons from the United States of America collaborated to alleviate local hospitals prevailing challenges.
According to Patriots chairperson, Kamuzu Chibambo, the container that has been donated to the health facility is one of the planned 100 worth K100 billion.
Chibambo revealed that each district is expected to receive 3 containers of medical equipment and supplies.
Chibambo said: “Thanks be to the daughters and sons of Malawi here at home and in the diaspora who have labored and sacrificed to deliver on their promise.”
Zomba Central Hospital director, Saulos Nyirenda, expressed excitement about the gesture from the partners saying it will help improve health care at the facility with the coming in of medical supplies.
“The container we have received here today contains assorted items which we are assured will be used at the facility. You are aware that the world economy is rough at the moment, I am deeply honored to receive the equipment.” Nyirenda said
The partners are targeting Nsanje District, followed by Bwaila District in Lilongwe, Likuni Mission Hospital, and Mzuzu Central Hospital.
“With the nation’s 28 districts, on average each district shall receive 3 containers of medical equipment and supplies.” Chiwambo Said.
Meanwhile, Traditional Authority Mlumbe pleaded with authority to ensure that the equipment is taken care of, especially at a time when cases of drug and equipment theft are rampant in government hospitals.
