NRB to comply with court order on voter registration

The National Registration Bureau (NRB) says it will comply with a recent High Court ruling mandating immediate measures to facilitate voter registration for eligible Malawians.

This decision follows the High Court judgment of Civil Cause No. 130, issued on October 25, 2024, which requires NRB to assist eligible citizens, even those lacking National IDs, to secure voter registration in time for upcoming elections.

NRB has in a statement announced plans to open additional registration centers across Malawi, providing avenues for citizens to obtain National IDs and unique identifiers essential for voter registration.

“These new centers will operate alongside existing registration points in districts, cities, municipal councils, and satellite locations, including certain post offices,” reads the statement.

The bureau has since assured the public of its continued support at Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) voter registration centers, where NRB is currently providing digital identity verification services.
