Local soccer analyst Twaha Chimuka has advised the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to carefully select a new coach who aligns with Malawi’s style of play to help build a strong national team for the future.

His comment comes in response to FAM’s recent termination of Patrick Mabedi’s contract as head coach of Malawi National Football Team, the Flames.

Chimuka emphasized that focusing solely on coaching changes isn’t enough. Instead, he urged FAM to invest in youth football development to build a robust talent pipeline for the national team.

“FAM needs to consider who they bring in to replace Mabedi carefully,” Chimuka said.

“At the same time, they should prioritize youth football development to groom a strong national team in the years to come.”

Patrick Mabedi’s departure follows a disappointing 18-month tenure, during which the Flames failed to secure qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), suffering four losses in their group-stage matches.

With two remaining group-stage games in November—against Burkina Faso at Bingu Stadium and Burundi away—Malawi is at the bottom of Group L with no points.
