YAD launches initiative to support men’s mental health
Young Achievers for Development (YAD) has launched the Tibe Khonde Azibambo initiative to address the growing concern of suicide among men.
The program aims to encourage men to openly discuss their challenges and seek help, promoting emotional wellbeing.
“The number of men resorting to suicide is overwhelming,” said Jefferson Milanze, YAD’s Executive Director. “We must reach out and support them.” Milanze emphasized the urgency of addressing this issue, citing police statistics from January to June 2024, which reveal 240 men and 36 women died by suicide.
YAD’s initiative strives to create a safe space for men to share their struggles, fostering a culture of openness and resilience.
By encouraging emotional expression and help-seeking, Tibe Khonde Azibambo seeks to prevent suicidal behaviors.
Milanzo emphasized, “Men often struggle silently, fearing stigma or judgment. We want to change this narrative.” YAD’s efforts focus on bridging the gap in mental health support for men, ensuring they receive necessary care.
The Tibe Khonde Azibambo initiative is a crucial step toward addressing Malawi’s rising suicide rates.
Through this program, YAD encourages men to prioritize their emotional wellbeing.
By seeking help and sharing their stories, men can find strength and resilience.
Milanze concluded, “Together, we can prevent suicide and build a healthier, more supportive society.”
