KPC donates to elderly women

As part of celebrating this year’s Mother’s Day, Karonga Press Club (KPC) today donated assorted items to two women, Margret Mwanganda and Middes Malema, to promote peace and harmony between youths and elderly people.
Speaking after making the donation, KPC General Secretary Walughano Lumbira said journalists in the club felt duty-bound to support mothers, especially the elderly, who often face numerous challenges, including witchcraft accusations.
“They deserve love from young people,” he added.
Elida Malema, speaking on behalf of her 90-year-old mother, Middes Malema, from Malema 1 village, said their family struggles to find basic necessities.
“The donation will help lessen the burden, even if only for a short period,” she said, appealing for more assistance.
Malema appreciated KPC’s kind gesture and urged youths to refrain from attacking the elderly, instead using them as a source of knowledge.
The donated items, worth over 150,000 kwacha, included washing and laundry soaps, sugar, salt, maize, cooking oil, matches, bread, and more.
