Chakwera calls for equitable implementation of AIP

President Lazarus Chakwera has emphasized the need for authorities to implement the Affordable Input Programme (AIP) equitably, ensuring that the intended beneficiaries receive the necessary support.

Speaking at the launch of the 24/25 AIP in Neno District, Chakwera stressed that transparency and accountability are crucial in the programme’s implementation.

Malawi is currently facing hunger challenges, primarily caused by climate change, which has resulted in low crop yields.

Chakwera committed to providing farmers with access to affordable inputs, enhancing food security in the country.

In his remarks, Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale assured the availability of fertilizer, with the government introducing markets in constituencies and mobile markets to reduce congestion during input procurement.

Kawale also encouraged farmers to explore alternative methods, such as organic fertilizers, to boost crop productivity and yield.

On the other hand, president of Farmers Union of Malawi (FUM), Maness Nkhata praised Chakwera for allowing farmers’ suggestions in this year’s launch and providing access to loans through the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF).
