Nyasulu: This will improve service delivery

Mzuzu is experiencing unprecedented growth and development.

This has excited city council’s chief executive officer Gomegzani Nyasulu who says the growth is right direction the city should take.

The initiatives include the construction of new roads, high-rise buildings, and a state-of-the-art civic office complex.

The Lazarus Chakwera-led administration has invested over K400 million in upgrading earth roads in various locations and townships within the city.

“Our residents have always faced mobility challenges due to poor conditions of roads in the city more especially during rainy season. We appreciate that a majority of them live in these townships and therefore they deserve a good and improved road network,” noted Nyasulu.

Scheduled to open in August next year, the new civic office complex will feature modern facilities including a conference space for town hall meetings and a spacious underground car park.

New civic office complex

Nyasulu added: “This will improve service delivery to residents and other people seeking different public services in the city. The new office complex will create a favorable environment for our dedicated public officers.”

Residents and business owners have welcomed the developments while praising Chakwera for considering the green city.

One of the residents in the city Maupo Mkandawire praised the Chakwera-led administration saying: “Mzuzu deserves such modern infrastructure including public offices and roads. This is long overdue considering that previous regimes neglected the northern region’s economic and business hub. I am very happy for what Chakwera has done to us.”

The improved road

On the other hand, a local small-scale business owner Ajabu Hamid, noted that the improved road network will boost his business.

“We sometimes could lose business due to poor roads but with the new road network we will go anywhere and make more money than the situation used to be,” said Hamid.

Among other developments in the city, there is also progress on the youth center and Mzuzu University’s new library.

Since taking office, President Chakwera has prioritized development projects across the country, regardless of political, tribal, or religious affiliation.
