BCC to resume maize distribution

The Blantyre City Council -BCC is this morning expected to resume the distribution of maize to hunger stricken families.
The council suspended exercise yesterday in order to allow families and friends to mourn beneficiaries who were killed in a road accident on Monday.
At least 40 underprivileged people were involved in an accident along the Magalasi Road on their way from Kamuzu Stadium where they went to receive the maize.
The accident involving a Toyota Dyna lorry saw claimed seven lives with some currently hospitalized at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital after sustaining various degrees of injuries.
Confirming the development to Capital FM, BCC chief executive officer Denis Chinseu promises that the exercise will resume tomorrow.
“The suspension is temporally because normally our distribution goes by areas and in this case we were doing the Michiru ward which is part of the areas from where the victims came from” explained Khamula. Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Management Affairs-DoDMA is in consultation with the BCC to provide assistance to the bereaved families.
