“We are sorry!” – Ndhlovu

MAFCO FC team captain Paul Ndhlovu has issued a public apology to Nyasa Big Bullets player Wongani Lungu and the entire FCB team via the team’s Facebook page.

Ndhlovu regretted the altercation that occurred during Sunday’s TNM Super League match, condemning the incident as unacceptable behavior that has no place in the beautiful game.

He wrote: “We are Sorry to the Bullets Family and Wongan Lungu as well on what happened during our match, As a captain I feel it was bad.”

Ndhlovu continued by saying the regretful acts are shameful in the game of football.

“Being a leader in a field of play I was supposed to control the tempers of my players as well, but it happens in football, we are one. Wish him a quick recovery,” he said

A soccer pundit, Kimu Kamau, commented on the incident saying the display by the MAFCO players showed unprofessionalism and a lack of sportsmanship especially in a reputable league such as the TNM Super League.

Kamau said: “It is quite unfortunate that the MAFCO players displayed such violent acts during the match. This is showed a lack of sportsmanship on their part because as we all know, the game of football is meant to unite people despite being an intense competition.”

Football fans expressed dismay over the incident via Capital FM Malawi’s Facebook page.

One fan, Charles Gare wrote in Chichewa saying: ‘Siine fan wa bullets koma ma team achisilikali amazolowela izizo, so I think it’s time achotsedwe mu league onse azikamenya league ya okha.’

The sentiments translate to: ‘This type of violence is habitual for these military teams. I think they should be expelled from the league.’

Bullets emerged victorious against their rivals winning 1-0. The result means they maintain their stay in third place and have now reduced the points gap between them and the league leaders Silver Strikers to 15 points while they have a 10 points gap with city rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who sit 3rd in the league standings.

MAFCO FC on the other end still have 30 points and still fighting for a top 8 finish in the league as they currently sit in 9th place in the TNM Super League.
