UDF convention commences
The United Democratic Front (UDF) convention has started today in Blantyre with much focus on elections of new leaders to lead the party.
Over a thousand delegates are attending the convention that will come to an end tomorrow.
After all the dramatic events that surrounded preparations for the convention, the stage is finally on, for the nation to witness how the party that decorates itself as Mother of multiparty democracy in the country will conduct the event.
UDF interim president, Lilian Patel has in an interview with media at the COMESA hall said she is leaving the party a happy person.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), National Development Party (NDP), and Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), among other political parties, are attending the convention as guests.
Initially, organizers invited the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to also attend the convention but UDF followers protested the move that in return saw the party reversing the decision.
Former state President and UDF President, Bakili Muluzi who has arrived at COMESA Hall is patronizing it as a guest of honor.
His son, Atupele is expected to assume the post of president unopposed.
