MANEPO, MHRC push for elderly friendly society

Malawi Network of older Persons -MANEPO and Malawi Human Rights Commission-MHRC have called on the general public to create a conducive and supportive environment for older persons in the country.
The two institutions have made the call as Malawi joins the rest of the world in commemorating older persons’ day, a day that falls on October 1 every year.
MANEPO Executive director, Andrew Kavala and MHRC chairperson, Chikondi Chijozi have in a statement said they will keep on advocating for the promotion of rights of the group in mention.
Theme for this year is Ageing with Dignity! The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide.
This, according to Kavala and Chijozi, underscores the critical need to create inclusive and supportive environments for the older individuals.
The statement has since commended parliament of Malawi for passing the Older Persons Act of 2024 which came into force on September 16.
