Auxiliary health workers down tools
Thousands of auxiliary health workers across the country have downed tools demanding an upward review of salaries and risk allowances, a recommendation done by the Ombudsperson 18 years ago.
As it stands, Capital Hill is owing the workers about 45 billion kwacha.
Among those staging a sit-in are ward clerks, hospital and laundry attendants.
The situation has already affected the operations in various hospitals as some essential duties have crippled.
Chief servant, Balawala Vingula has vowed to continue with the sit-in until government resolves their concerns.
Ministry of health spokesperson, Adrian Chikumbe has since expressed worry with the move by the auxiliary health workers adding that government is already working on their issues.
“They did not give us the notice prior to the sit in and this is worrisome but government is already working the concerns,” he said.
