Man arrested over street attacks in Lilongwe
Police in Lilongwe have arrested Shadreck Chimpeni, 20, for allegedly being involved in criminal activities in the city.
Lilongwe police spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu says Chimpeni has been attacking and robbing people their valuable properties at Lilongwe during both day and night times.
“The suspect, who is famously touted as street connected children’ chairperson among his peers, has been on the run for at least a month after being listed as one of the most police wanted suspects earmarked for arrest,” said Chigalu.
“In one of the numerous cases he is facing, at around 14:30 hours the suspect, while displaying a knife at two University of Malawi students who were passing-by at Wullian near Lilongwe Bridge, ordered the victims to voluntarily surrender their items to him or risked being stabbed,” he explained.
According to Chigalu, Shadreck Chimpeni who hails from Kampepuza Village, Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu District will be taken to court soon.
