NBM plc, energy companies collaborate for clean energy solutions
National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sky Energy Africa and 265 Energy to expand customer access to credit services for clean energy solutions.
Speaking after the signing ceremony in Blantyre today, NBM’s head of retail banking, Oswin Kasunda expressed optimism about the partnership with the energy companies.
“We are optimistic that this collaboration will yield mutual benefits for Sky Energy, 265 Energy, and our bank. Our customers will be able to purchase products from the energy firms with ease, enabling the adoption of clean energy for all,” Kasunda said.
Sky Energy Africa’s CEO, Schizzo Thomson, commended the bank’s commitment to promoting clean energy adoption.
“While the long-term benefits of clean energy technologies, such as solar power and electric vehicles, are undeniable—both in terms of environmental impact and cost savings—the initial investment often poses a barrier for many,” Thomson stated.
“NBM plc’s green financing program is a true game changer. They will offer financing options for our clients with repayment terms of up to five years, significantly lowering upfront costs and accelerating the adoption of clean energy technologies,” Thomson explained.
On his part, 265 Energy’s CEO, Mfundo Mbvundula, highlighted the partnership’s potential to make clean energy products more affordable for customers by reducing the typically high costs associated with them.
“At the moment, many people are yet to embrace clean energy solutions like cooking with gas and solar power because they perceive them as expensive. This partnership with National Bank of Malawi plc will provide our common customers with the opportunity to purchase our products more easily,” Mbvundula said.
Through their services across all major and emerging energy technologies—including solar, wind energy, energy storage systems (ESS), electric vehicles (EV), energy monitoring systems (EMS), green gas, and digital innovations—Sky Energy Africa and 265 Energy hope to promote the adoption of clean energy.
