Bangwe, KB in crucial league wins
Defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets suffered a setback in the TNM Super League, losing 1-0 to Bangwe All Stars at Kamuzu Stadium on Thursday.
Bullets have won and drew twice including a loss in their last five league outings.
James Msowoya’s lone goal secured a crucial victory for Bangwe, relegating Bullets to 10th place in the standings.
Despite the win, Bangwe remains in the relegation zone with 15 points, just two points behind 14th-placed Chitipa United.
Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa said: “We did not do well in attack, especially in the final third. They caught us of guard in the counter attack to score the only goal in the match. We did not work hard enough in this much to deserve a win.”
Bangwe All Stars gaffer, Trevor Kajawa, described the win as valuable having beaten the defending champions in a league encounter.
Kajawa said: “It was crucial match but I already advised my boys that if we want to fight for relegation we need to win over Bullets. They followed my instructions and am very happy with the results.”
In another match, Kamuzu Barracks boosted their title aspirations with a convincing 2-0 victory over Chitipa United at Civo Stadium.
The loss keeps Chitipa on the brink of relegation with 17 points.
Chitipa United gaffer Christopher Nyambose said: “We played without key players who sustained from injuries. Two defenders are out from our previous games, we had to improvise by fielding irregular players. I sincerely hope we can only hope that they recover soon enough.”
Kamuzu Barracks’ win cemented their third-place position, 14 points behind leaders Silver Strikers, revitalizing their championship hopes.
Kamuzu Barracks FC Charles Kamanga said: “The win a very huge motivation because we have to compete and win. Such big wins are important because we are now reducing the points and goal margins.”
Meanwhile, all eyes will be at the Kamuzu stadium Saturday 20th when second placed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers meet relegation bound Baka City while 7th placed Moyale Barracks face 5th placed Creck Sporting Club at Mzuzu Stadium.
