Train ride, music, more: SUCHI marks Mother’s Day with style

Newly registered non-governmental organisation, Support for Community and Health Initiatives (SUCHI) is hosting a Mother’s Day celebration on October 15, at an event which aims to promote women’s empowerment and economic independence.

The festivities will begin with a scenic train ride from Blantyre to Balaka and back, offering an opportunity for participants to learn essential skills in business financing, investment and entrepreneurship.

According to SUCHI’s acting chief executive officer, Geoffrey Tamutamu, the trip will offer a lot of exciting and productive moments.

“Experts will provide awareness sessions on cancer and fistula prevention and management. We will also visit and cheer patients at Balaka District Hospital.

“Apart from that, there will also be a lot of entertaining things that will take place at Balaka Stadium with fun games like relay race, sack race and egg race. Additionally, there will also be live music performances by Mlaka Maliro, Sam Simakweli and Zembani Band as well as stand-up comedy by Mr. Jokes and other artists,” said Tamutamu.

The event’s theme is: Women Empowerment: A Source of Hope and Economic Independence.

As a charitable NGO, SUCHI focuses on reducing poverty, hunger and disease burden in targeted communities, prioritizing health, livelihood, and environmental management.

Their primary beneficiaries include under-five children, women and other vulnerable groups.
