Southern region colleges hold volleyball tourney
Southern region-based colleges are being commended for organising the Colleges Volleyball League amid an idle league season.
The Southern Region Volleyball League and its sponsors are yet to reach a sponsorship agreement for the commencement of the 2024 season.
UNIMA Checkers who were the overall winners for both the male and female categories joined the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).
The list of participating colleges included Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES) and Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA).
A volleyball pundit Trust Mtegha said: “The southern region based colleges deserve a pat on the back for organizing the volleyball tournament at a time when the future of a 2024 Southern Region Volleyball League season.”
According to Mtegha, the move by the college volleyball tournament organizers shows their hunger to grow the sport.
“Their commitment to host the games at UNIMA sports complex signifies their interest in having such competitions as a way of developing the sport on the local scene that will produce international stars. Unfortunately the delaying the league that grooms such players may affect morale,” Mtegha said.
