Soche Stadium contractor gets second chance, Zingwangwa’s replaced
The government has decided to replace contractor for the Zingwangwa stadium while retaining the current contractor for the Soche stadium.
According to sports minister Uchizi Mkandawire, the decision has been made due to disparities in the progress of work at the two sites as well as recent economic shocks faced by the country.
“For the Soche stadium, we have agreed with the contractor that he should go back to the site to finish the work because we have an allocation.
“As of the Zingwangwa one, very little has been done on the project (only 5 percent), so we have opted to terminate the contract and start afresh,” the minister said.
Initially, the two facilities were intended to be home to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers respectively but the government has announced that it will assume full ownership of both structures upon completion.
