Kabambe urges youth to revive economy through innovation
UTM presidential hopeful Dalitso Kabambe has challenged the youth to be innovative towards resuscitating the country’s economy through technology.
Speaking as a guest of honour at the 2024 Youth Rally for the CCAP Blantyre Synod in Chiradzulu on Saturday, the former Reserve Bank governor has stressed on the need for the country to embrace technology as a means of generating more revenue.
“What we need in Malawi are job creators. For two hundred years plus, the country has depended on maize, tobacco, sugar and tea. That trade model was based on demands that time but now things have changed based on a number of issues including health reasons.
“As a country we need to think twice and think of what Malawi will produce and export. The world has moved on from selling commodities and is now focusing on technology,” said the economist.
On his part, vice chairperson for the Synod’s youth association committee Stanley Maganga has said the meeting is not only aiming to enrich their spiritual lives, but their socioeconomic well-being as well hence inviting Kabambe and several other influential people in the society.
He said: “These rallies are very important. We are not only looking at the spiritual part. We are inviting people like Dr. Dalitso Kabambe to talk to us about economy and governance.”
The 2024 Youth Rally which is based on 1 Peter 2 v 9 is under the theme: Youth Born With Christ Identify.
