PP out of Tonse Alliance – Capital Radio Malawi

Peoples’ Party (PP) has become the latest faction to pull out of the governing Tonse Alliance ahead of September next year’s general elections.

Former president Joyce Banda who is the party’s leader announced the stand at a rally in Zomba on Sunday.

Banda said her party’s relationship with the Tonse Alliance came to an end after the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) convention which took place in Lilongwe recently.

Led by the MCP and their leader Lazarus Chakwera, the 9 party alliance was voted to power in June 2020 following a court sanctioned election.

Other parties that announced pulling out of the alliance include the UTM which was being led by late Vice President Saulos Chilima, Alliance for Democracy –AFORD and People’s Transformation Party (Petra) among others.
