CSEC Calls for Revamped Curriculum in Tertiary Education.

The Civil Society Education Coalition (CSEC) is advocating for a comprehensive overhaul of the curriculum in tertiary institutions to ensure that students receive relevant and high-quality education.
CSEC Executive Director Benedicto Kondowe emphasized that this curriculum reform is vital to support the government’s efforts to enhance education in universities and private colleges.
Recently, President Lazarus Chakwera reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing the education sector through the construction of modern infrastructure and schools across the country.
However, Kondowe highlighted that while infrastructure development is important, it is not sufficient by itself to achieve the educational quality envisioned in Malawi’s Vision 2063.
“Infrastructure development, though crucial, cannot drive quality education on its own. It needs to be accompanied by curriculum reform that addresses societal needs and supports private sector growth and national economic development.” Kondowe stated.
Wezi Kayira, Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Labour, underscored the importance of aligning educational outcomes with national goals.
“Malawi Vision 2063 Enabler 5 on Human Capital Development can only be realized when citizens are equipped with relevant, high-quality education that emphasizes both academic excellence and technical and vocational skills suited for the labor market.” Kayira noted
