Top Democrats throw support behind Harris after Biden exits race
Wants to win the nomination -Harris
A growing number of senior Democrat politicians and party backers are supporting Kamala Harris to be the party’s presidential candidate, after Joe Biden quit the race.
President Biden withdrew from November’s election on Sunday, having faced increasing calls to step aside since his TV debate against Donald Trump.
He has endorsed Harris, who says she intends to “earn and win” the nomination.
There’s been a reported surge in public donations to the Democrats since Biden dropped out.
Some of his closest aides were only given one minute’s notice of the decision.
Biden will remain as president – but the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, says “if he can’t run for office, he can’t run our country”.
