DPP’s Makwinja, Osman win BT City Mayor, Deputy Mayor posts
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councillors for Bangwe and Ntopwa Wards, Joseph Makwinja and Isaac Jomo Osman have been elected Blantyre City Mayor and deputy Mayor respectively.
The new Mayor got 16 votes against 14 votes secured by fellow DPP councilor Getrude Chirambo of Namalimwe Ward whohas finished second.
On the other hand, Jomo Osman has won the seat after securing 11 votes, outshining the incumbent, Fane Balaba Kanojelera of the UTM who got 10 votes, while DPP’s Gerald Lipikwe who secured 9 votes.
Makwinja was once elected Deputy Mayor for the same city during the 2019 mayoral election.
Jomo Osman own Ntopwa Football Clubs playing in the premier division, national women’s tournaments and junior competitions in the country.
