Radio Maria Malawi mourns late Dzimbiri
Radio Maria, Director, Father Joseph Kimu has said Radio Maria Malawi would greatly miss late, Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri who was one of volunteer presenters of Woyera walero for 13 years.
Woyera walero is a five minutes daily radio programme aired both in the morning and evenings featuring life history of saints according to the Catholic liturgical.
Preaching at Dzimbiri’s funeral at Mfulanjovi, Traditional Authority (TA) Chanthunya, he said he came across late Dzimbiri in Mangochi where her choir from Kankao Parish came to participate in a choir festival.
He described her as humble as he could not believe that former First Lady could spare her time to be in a choir group.
“l was amazed to discover that among members of a choir from Mfulanjovu in Balaka was former First Lady,” Fr. Kimu said.
He said this prompted him to look for her contact and what he learnt out of the conversation prompted him further to ask her if she could be one of presenters of Woyera walero on Radio Maria.
“To my delight, late Dzimbiri accepted and this was when she started to present Woyera walero on Radio Maria,” the Director added.
Dzimbiri used to travel to Mangochi to produce the programme or could do it at Radio Maria Malawi Lilongwe studio but later she opted to record the programmes home.
“Radio Maria will miss her,” he added in honour of Dzimbiri whom he described as dedicated catholic with humane gesture.
On the radio she gave life history of many saints and on November 20, 2023, she gave life history of St, Maria Betilla Boscardin of Italy, on November 24, 2023 she gave life history of St. Anthony Mary Claret of Spain and on October 21, 2023 she featured life of St. Hilarion of Gaza in Palestine.
A regular listener of Woyera walero in Dedza, Alphonso Mpima described late Dzimbiri as good presenter with a powerful and captivating voice.
“l can say therefore say Dzimbiri was good at presenting that programme. She had a powerful voice,” he added.
