MACRA warns against sharing graphic content

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is warning the public against sharing “graphic” and “insensitive material” related to Monday’s tragic plane crash.

The tragic crash of a military aircraft led to the death of the country’s Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight other government officials.

In a statement, MACRA’s Director General Daud Suleman starts with expressing sadness over the lives lost and goes on to remind Malawians of the need to honour the memory of the victims with utmost dignity and respect.

This is a direct response to the circulation of a picture alledgedly showing the lifeless body of the country’s late Vice President on various social media platforms.

“We urge the public to be highly sensitive and refrain from sharing and spreading offensive content, victims of the families need to mourn in peace,” Suleman pleads.

The MACRA boss further calls on the public to be more mindful of the material they post online.

Malawi is currently observing a 21-day period of mourning which was declared by President Lazarus Chakwera on Tuesday evening.
