Health rights campaigners are calling for reintroduction of models used in eradicating polio to deal with the re-emerging outbreaks and epidemics.

Malawi has managed to stop the transmission of wild poliovirus type 1 and has since received a special recognition from the WHO.

The first case of the polio disease was reported and confirmed in February 2022 in Lilongwe and since then no other case has been recorded.

The country has had a re-emergence of cholera, scabies and leprosy, a situation which raised concerns on the wellbeing of people.

The Malawi Health Equity Network-MHEN Executive Director; George Jobe is now advising the government to apply the same efforts on polio to deal with other outbreaks.
