Malawi will for the next three years serve on the International Labour Organisation’s governing body following its election as a Titular Member at the 112th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
During the election held last Friday, 7 June 2024, Malawi secured 199 out of 217 votes; suggesting strong support from the member countries.
Following her election, Malawi will represent the Southern African Development Community – SADC as a Titular Member, with Mozambique and South Africa serving as deputies.
Malawi’s nomination was made by SADC in Angola during a meeting of ministers of labour and employment in March 2024.
Malawi is one of the 28 governments that hold Titular Membership in the ILO governing body that has a total of 187 member states.
