The Malawi Congress Party-MCP leadership is being tipped to caution members on the importance of understanding key values of democracy.
This follows a statement made by the party’s Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mapuyu Esther Kathumba at a rally.
At the event Kathumba proposed that President Lazarus Chakwera be the nation’s life president.
According to Executive Director of the Center for Human Rights and Rehabilitation-CHRR Michael Kaiyatsa, such statements have the potential to escalate political violence.
MCP Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka insists that President Chakwera already addressed the matter.
