Court slaps man with 10 years IHL for defilement

First Grade Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced, a 23 year old man, Biziwick Devison to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 13 year old girl.

In the court room, Lawrence Kambale told court that on April 14, 2014, around 17:00 hours, the victim went to a maize field to collect maize residues and Davison approached her and force himself into her.

Appearing before First Grade Magistrate, Leonard Mtosa, Davison, pleaded guilty for the charge leveled against him.

In mitigation, the convict begged for forgiveness saying he was first offender and had family obligations.

In submission, Kambale quashed the mitigations and said, “the offences of these kind are common and the convict needed stiffer punishment since the girl is too young,”

Sub Inspector Kambale told the court that stiffer punishment would deter would be offenders.

Passing judgement, Mtosa concurred with the state and went ahead to sentence Davison to 10-years imprisonment with hard labour.

Davison comes from Mkwereriwa Village, Traditional Authority Ndanga in Mulanje
