MACODA trains staff on Persons’ with Disability Act
Capacitating Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA) workers has been cited as one of the biggest steps in promoting and upholding the rights of persons with disabilities in the country.
This is according to MACODA director general George Chiusiwa who said so far, they are training their key staff members across all districts to have full knowledge of the new Act.
“It is important to realize that the newly enacted Persons’ with Disability Act is key towards effective implementation and promotion of rights of persons with disabilities.
“For so long, the nation has had pieces of legislation to protect persons with disabilities’ rights but enforcement has always been a challenge due to law application capacity mechanism deficiencies. We believe the trainings will fill that gap,” said Chiusiwa.
The organization is conducting the trainings with support from World Vision and expects to extend them to councils and other organisations championing persons with disability matters.
