Non-parliamentarian women UDF to pay half nomination fees -UDF

United Democratic Front (UDF) has stepped in to encourage more women to take part and contest at it’s August 4 convention by reducing nomination fees for non-parliamentarian women by 50 percent.

The party’s publicity secretary Yusufu Mwawa has confirmed this saying it is one way of encouraging women to go for more positions.

“As a party we would love to see more women aspirants contesting for more positions at primary elections and we believe this idea of reducing the fee would help. We understand the importance of observing gender balance in our party that is why we are putting in place different measures to have more women and the youth on board,” added Mwawa.

According to UDF, those aspiring for the Presidency are supposed to pay a sum of K1,000,000 which means women that are not parliamentarians will pay K500,000.

On the other hand, those interested for the position of vice president seat will pay K500,000 and female aspirants for the position of secretary general will have to pay half of K350,000.

This comes after several calls for political parties to develop measures to uplift women in political positions.
