‘I am authentic’ -Abiti Najere
New reggae and amapiano artist trading as Abiti Najere has denied being a copycat of fellow breakout star, Jetu.
While both ladies have been victims of heavy criticism from a section of social media, Najere has specifically been targeted for what they label as cheap imitation of the 73-year-old granny, Jetu.
Abiti Najere, 52, recently appeared on Capital FM’s Mingoli yachimalawi where listeners questioned her authenticity.
Najere responded saying: “I have actually been making music even before Jetu surfaced. However, I have not been able to gain enough support to flourish.
As a matter of fact, I part of the Bangwe Youth Morale that did the United Democratic Front (UDF) song called Wagwa Nayo back then. I used to belong to a choir but I stopped and I am now concentrating on my songs,” she highlighted.
One of her songs Ndikufuna Amuna Anga (I am looking for my husband) has already reached 35,000 views on YouTube, 10 days after being posted on the platform.
Both Abiti Najere and Jetu come from Bangwe Township in the outskirts of Blantyre City.
Abiti Najere is a divorced widow with seven children and she is hoping that music will migrate her from relying on peace works for daily survival.
