Invest in youths, stop corruption – Kazombo

Kazombo: This is the time to invest in the youth

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Madalitso Kazombo has emphasized the need to allocate enough resources among young people in the country as a way of controlling population growth.

He says the increase in human population tells the leaders that there is great human capital that needs proper harnessing for the development of the country adding that there is need to allocate enough resources to youth programs for massive productivity and value addition of products.

“We have the great assert in the youth to improve the nation’s economy and let us stop remembering these young people during political campaign periods only. This is the time to invest in them. We must empower our communities, amplify the voices of the marginalized and uphold the principles of equity and social justice,” he highlighted.

He further said the nation is not lacking in policies or frameworks; rather, the focus must now shift towards effective translation into tangible actions on the ground—actions that bring about real and lasting change in the lives of the people.

Kazombo also criticized corruption practices that are frustrating development efforts.

“We must stop corruption, leave the resources to achieve the intended purpose. To close the policy-implementation gap in population and development, we must foster a culture of accountability, transparency and inclusivity at all levels of governance,” Kazombo said.

Africa Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) executive director Eliya Zulu said it is time to stop worrying about population growth that cannot be controlled but rather focus on making right investments into human capital.

“I hope the policy makers will consider allocation of the limited resources to interventions that will maximize returns on investments,” said Zulu.
