Man earns jail time for defilement

Police in Ntchisi have arrested Wako Mkwepu,30 for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a three-year-old girl.

Ntchisi Police Spokesperson, Sub Inspector, Salome Zgambo confirmed the development saying the mother to the victim had left for Lilongwe on official duties leaving her daughter with her mother in law.

She said the grandparent was caring for other grandchildren hence it was difficult to take control of every child’s movement and the suspected person took advantage to take the victim behind the house.

“Mkwepu was caught red handed behind the house and after sensing danger he escaped from the scene,” the Spokesperson said.

Zgambo said, “The matter was later reported to Police who they referred the victim to Ntchisi District Hospital for examination where penetration was confirmed and the suspect was later arrested on Tuesday and will appear before court soon to answer defilement charges.”

Mkwepu hails from Kafwafwa Village, Senior Chief Kalumo in Ntchisi.
