FAM promises $50,000 for CAF participants
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) will be pumping in $50,000 (over K85,000,000) to a local club participating in Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions.
The association’s boss Fleetwood Haiya says for starters, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will be given the money following their participation in the continental showpiece last year.
“We will be supporting teams that qualify for CAF. We are going to inject $50,000 to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets for representing Malawi last year and this will be the trend for all the local teams participating in CAF every year,” Haiya revealed.
Meanwhile, Haiya has assured that the FA will also support Ascent Soccer Academy who are due to participate in the Cosafa Women’s Tournament later this year after winning the title of the 2023 Goshen-FAM National Women’s Championship.
“We are going to make sure that the ladies are given the necessary support when they play at Cosafa because they are representing our country. If they qualify to go to CAF then we will also continue because they are making us proud,” added the FA leader.
Reacting to the development, technical director and owner of Ntopwa Super Queens Isaac Jomo Osman thanked the approach by the FA leadership saying this will bring stiff competition in the women’s game because of the available support.
Jomo whose team participated at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League/COSAFA Qualifiers said; “This announcement will encourage our girls and it is very big to the football family. This is what we need.”
