Women’s association hails national tourney
The National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) have highly rated the Goshen FAM Women’s Championship tournament saying it has been extremely competitive.
Being played at Bingu national Stadium in Lilongwe, the week-long competition started on Monday and will conclude on Sunday.
“We have seen spectacular performances from the participating teams more especially those that were underdogs in previous editions of women’s football,” NWFA chairperson Adelaide Migogo said.
Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya pledged support towards women football in the country.
“Our quest to become a dominant women’s football nation is on track and our key partner Goshen City unveiled a K21 million sponsorship for the Goshen City Women’s National Championship.” Haiya wrote on his Facebook page
The FA chief expressed confidence that the players from such competitions have the capacity to represent Malawi national team like their predecessors in the senior national team.
Recently, a Scorchers player Leticia Chinyamula won the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Most Promising Player award while other players from the same squad were nominated for the inaugural 2023 COSAFA awards.
