Man in the cooler for child abuse
Lingadzi Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a man for throwing his disabled son into Lingadzi River over child support wrangle.
Lingadzi Police Station Publicist, Sergeant, Cassim Manda confirmed of the development and identified the man as Evason Fred, 24.
He explained that, “Due to some family differences Fred left his wife and married another woman which angered the wife to making a decision to abandon their five-year-old son who had cerebral palsy.
“She left their son at her mother in-law’s house which did not go well with Fred and on May 10, 2024, Fred went to his mother’s house and politely asked to take the son home on pretense of providing child support, and on his way back home, he undressed his son and threw him into the river.”
Manda said the suspect abandoned his son’s clothes near Area 47 Livingstonia CCAP Church to make it seem like the child was abducted, but a week later the suspect called his ex-wife informing her about their child’s death but he did not tell her where his body was.
“After the ex-wife and her relative asked the suspect about the child’s body he started running away, but the people who were near him managed to catch him and took him to Lingadzi Police Station where the suspect confessed to throwing his son in Lingadzi River,’’ he added.
Police are working round the clock to find the child’s body who is feared dead.
Fred will appear before court soon to answer murder charges contrary to section 209 of the penal code which attracts a death penalty.
Fred hails from Matekwe Village, Tradition Authority (TA) Khongoni in Lilongwe District.
