Minister pledges continued support
Capital Hill is pledging continued support for various sports codes to develop and motivate associations and their athletes.
Sports minister Uchizi Mkandawire hints at Malawi’s plans to export more athletes to countries where specific sports disciplines are advanced.
“We have always been there for all the athletes and sports associations in the country. As the government we will continue to provide all the necessary support so that our athletes can continue to perform and do well in all sporting events. We believe that our support will be able to make more achievements, moving forward,” said Mkandawire.
In football, Malawi is shining on the global stage with the inspiring talent of the Chawinga sisters, Tabitha and Temwa, plying their trade in France and the USA, respectively.
Last week, women’s football star Leticia Chinyamula won the Most Promising Player award during the inaugural Cosafa Award ceremony which was held in South Africa.
Additionally, before her retirement, netballer Mwawi Kumwenda made headlines internationally.
