Include LGBTQI community in big positions -member
A member of the LGBTQI community, Davie Chisale, views consideration of some of the members of the community into serious decision-making positions would help advocate and empower them in many ways.
Chisale is of the view that this would change the narrative which societies have towards the LGBTQI community and would also enhance acceptance within societies.
“Malawi has a long way to completely accept, understand and co-exist with us, as such it was important to have LGBTQI people who are well qualified, in some critical positions to advocate for our existence and fight for our human rights.
“Communities have to change their perception towards the LGBTQI community and it is high time our rights were respected just like for any other person,” said Chisale.
Furthermore, Chisale said the Sustainable Development Goals that Malawi has been preaching needs collaboration amongst all people including the LGBTQI community if the blueprint is to be achieved.
Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation as well as Nyasa Rainbow Alliance are among organisations that have advocated for the need to remove some provisions in the Penal Code Act criminalizes the same sex marriages arguing that would be one of key areas to improve the rights of the minority group.
Poor health reproductive services, discrimination and security threats are some of the challenges the LGBTQI community have been lamenting and calling for change.
