SALIFNET for financial aid to underprivileged in Mulanje
Support a Life Network (SALIFNET) is calling on the private and public sector to provide financial support to communities in Mulanje district.
The organization supports women, young girls and the elderly who are in need of social support around Traditional Authority Nkanda in the district.
According to SALIFNET executive director Patience Mandala, lack of funding is derailing their efforts to reach out more vulnerable groups in the area.
He said; “We are facing financial challenges which are affecting our outreach programs towards young girls, the elderly and those living with disabilities.”
Mandala since made a passionate call to private companies to consider partnering them through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
One of the beneficiaries who has been helped by SALIFNET, Ellena Makawa said she boosted her homestead farming through financial assistance rendered to her by the organization.
“I am now able to grow crops for food and for sale. This has also helped us improve our diet as directed by health advisors,” Makawa said
According to Mandala, most of the women also take part in various programs which includes assisting the elderly in farming activities
He said: “Our young women mobilise funds on their own at times through piece works and fundraising initiatives like selling baked goods among others just to make ends meet.”
He since called for interventions from the minister of children, disability and social welfare Jean Sendeza, philanthropist Shepherd Bushiri, businessman Thomson Mpinganjira and Malawi’s first lady Monica Chakwera.
The organisation also targets individuals living with HIV/AIDS who cannot sustain themselves financially.
