SULOM mum on ‘incorporation’ of partners in new TNM deal

Mittawa: The focus should be on the increment first
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) is tight lipped on whether their fresh agreement with TNM Plc. is open for other corporate institutions to partner the competition.
On Wednesday, TNM Plc. announced an upward revision of their annual contribution to the league from K150 million to K500 million for three years.
Unconfirmed reports have it that Premier Bet Malawi pulled off their K260 million co-sponsorship to the elite league after the telecommunications company was allegedly unhappy with the initiative.
Asked immediately after the unveiling of the new sponsorship, as to whether the new agreement is open ended to other companies, Sulom president Gilbert Mittawa said; “I think the first thing for now is to appreciate the gesture which TNM has brought to us. No person can just come to pump in K500 million. I think that should be the focus to appreciate TNM for their quest to help to revive, reform, rebrand and transform the game of football in the country.”
Currently, Sulom has Farmers Organisation Limited (FOL) as a sole partner supporting man of the match awards in all the 280 matches per season.
The K14.5 million agreement leaves every outstanding player in a match with K40,000 and a miniature.
On the other hand, clubs are now left to find kit sponsors for themselves instead of having a TNM logo as was the case previously.
