National division league to start next year -FAM

Haiya: It is a lot of money as well

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is set to roll out a national division league.

This will be the only competition used to promote clubs to the elite competition.

In the current format, teams promoted to the TNM Super League come from regional divisions, a format which critics have described as uncompetitive.

FAM President Fleetwood Haiya hints that the national division league will be implemented next season.

“We are going to introduce a national division league which will be a second tier to the super league. When the teams qualify from the regional competitions, they will be playing in the national division league and after that it is when they can be promoted to the top flight league. We believed this will cartel all the confusion that is caused at regional leagues when teams want to qualify to play in the Super League,” Haiya said.

The Malawi football boss revealed that they have constituted a national division league development committee “that will help us on how best we are going to manage the regional competitions and help us in the implementation of the national second division tourney.”
