Youth engagement, key to national development – Minandi
Youth engagement in various development activities is said to be a crucial element in realizing the Malawi 2063 Vision.
People’s Party (PP) shadow legislature for Zomba Likangala Martha Minandi challenged government to create an enabling environment that allows dialogue between the two sides so that the youth may have space to contribute viable solutions to existing challenges in society.
She said: “I would like to encourage Members of Parliament to stand with their youth to pioneer long lasting solutions to challenges for us to have a better Malawi.
“The youth can provide lasting solutions to issues to do with drug and substance abuse, early pregnancies which at some extent lead to early marriage and delinquency among them.”
At the weekend, the aspiring MP held a sports bonanza in the area where she called upon others to join hands in developing the lives of the youth who are in majority.
Former Flames and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets goalie Ernest Kakhobwe graced the event and lauded Minandi’s development efforts including sports.
Group Village Headman, Gibson Mindano, of Sitima Village in Traditional Authority Mwambo pledged to support the initiative.
“We will work hand in hand with leaders who are showing interest to develop our youth. We want to raise youth participation in the development of our community,” Mindano said.
The sponsorship package of K100,000 saw 8 football and etball teams compete at the weekend.
